Happy Last day of January

Happy Last Day of January. As we enter into February, now is a fine time to take note on how well you are following your New Year's goals and intentions.

Are you eating the foods and drinks that nourish your body, mind and spirit?

Are you living the life you envisioned for yourself?

Are you exercising your body?

For me, January has been an amazing month of personal growth, focused work and fun. The skiing here in Utah has been over the TOP! We have received over 320 inches of snow and I am loving every minute of it.

The 30 Day Whole Body and Mind Cleansing Program has been amazing this month. I am grateful and blessed to be leading 21 incredible women through this life transforming journey.

One thing I have been slacking on is home cooking. I am recommitted in February to plan, shop, prepare one new meal per week. I will keep you posted on my success.

Have a brilliant day!

Living in the Moment

What if you knew this moment was the only moment you had?

Many of us are focused on the future and/or living in the past.

The time is NOW.

Today practice living and fully BEING in the present when you eat your food.

When you are fully present with your food, you eat less, taste more and are more apt to listen to your bodies signal of being satiated.

Practice preparing your food mindfully, connecting to the source of the food, imagining who grew your food, harvested it, packaged it, trucked it to your grocery store, the produce person, the checkout person, etc.

Give a silent thank you and a blessing to all of the hands who made your meal possible and you will feel more connected to your food and body.

Chew your food mindfully and release the need to multi task or distract yourself with tv, magazines, the phone etc. Try eating with your spine straight!

Live in the moment and cherish every precious moment you have been given.

Tell Your Monkey Mind Thanks for Sharing

Have you ever had a really big dream or a goal?

I have numerous dreams, goals and visions for my health, personal and professional life and some of these goals are so huge that they scare me!

I think its good to shake in your boots a little bit to blast you out of your comfort zone.

When I start shaken in my boots in fear, doubt, insecurity and anxiety I know that "my monkey mind" has gotten the best of me.

Do you know what a monkey mind is?

Keep reading to find out.

I'm not the only one whose monkey mind gets the best of them.

I have seen it in previous cleanse groups I have led, with private nutrition clients and in my friends and family.

I have seen people get really down on themselves and then give up on their dreams.

I have seen the same thing while teaching yoga class.

Students take themselves so seriously, beat themselves up, shake their head at themselves, swear at themselves out loud because they fall out of a posture and tell themselves they suck or they can't or whatever.

That is your ego talking to you. Your little self that keeps you SEPARATE, alone, in fear, unhappy, paralyzed with doubt and anxiety.

Next time this happens to you, tell your little ego or MONKEY MIND thanks for sharing and then LET IT GO.

Laugh at yourself like a child learning to walk.

Pick yourself up by your boot straps, remember your goals, your VISION, your WHY and keep on marching or dancing or drumming to success, to your FUTURE self to your REALIZED SELF!

I love this game!

Love and Success,
Amanda

Six Powerful Steps to Deconstruct Sugar Cravings

You may have noticed that once you have determined that you really desire Radiant Health, a beautiful body, healthy organs, glowing skin, hair and eyes, consistent energy and happiness that your little self or your ego (little child) may be having a fit or a temper tantrum.

You may experience crazy sugar cravings or you may feel obsessed about food or feel like you have to control what you eat.

Sugar cravings are deep seeded cravings usually brought on in childhood and they don't back down with ease.

You crave sweets for various reasons such as:

Stress

When you feel tired

As a reward for completing a demanding project or for working out

To soothe yourself when you feel emotional, upset, sad, angry, mad or even happy!

You crave sugar out of habit because you “always” drink coffee and have a muffin after you take the kids to school or you eat one tiny piece of chocolate every night after dinner.

You crave sugar to self sabotage yourself- you feel like you don’t deserve to feel totally amazing all of the time so you eat sugar to keep you feeling small, surrounded in drama and in chaos.

You have sugar cravings associated with holiday’s, family gatherings, and different seasons.
You have sugar cravings because your current way of living and eating is out of balance.

You crave sugar because you are unsatisfied in your career.

You have sugar cravings because you are unsatisfied in your love life or your because you feel lonely and want the perfect partner that ignites your soul.

You crave sugar because you exercise too much or not enough.

You crave sugar because you feel disconnected from your source.

Here are some tips to assist you the next time a sugar craving hits!

Step 1: Instead of just stuffing the sweet in your mouth without thinking about it, stop and ask yourself what am I really craving?

Step 2: Describe the craving by speaking it out loud or write about it in your journal.

Step 3: Ask yourself these questions:
What am I really hungry for?
How do I feel right now for example “tired, stressed, bored, lonely, angry, mad, sad, confused, totally happy.”
What am I hoping this sweet will do for me?
How do I imagine I will feel after I eat the sweet?
What is my intention for eating this sweet?

Step 4: After answering the questions, chose if you still want the sweet.

Step 5: If you chose to have the sweet is it possible to upgrade the quality of your sweet to the most amazing, best version possible of your sweet?

For example, last week I was craving a vegan chocolate chip cookie out of habit (because I got it in my mind that Saturday’s are a great day to enjoy a little treat.)

I stopped reviewed my questions and realized that I actually hate the way I feel after I eat those cookies!

Instead I powerfully chose to replace my low vibrational chocolate chip cookie craving with the most amazing, organic, high vibrational 70% organic dark cocoa, rich with Omega Oils, cocoa butter and organic vanilla beans. I ate one exquisite truffle and felt totally satisfied, nourished and over my sugar cravings (the only problem is as I write this I am craving another Truffle!)

Step 6: Love yourself up! Many times when you crave sugar you are actually longing for sweetness in your life. Make a list of ways you can nourish your body, mind and spirit without food.
Here are some examples:

Take a hot bath with lavender essential oil.

Get a hug or a kiss from your loved one.

Take a nap.

Pet your cat or dog.

Connect with nature.

Practice deep breathing.

Drink water or your favorite cup of herbal tea (chamomile, peppermint or ginger.)

Watch a movie or read a book.

Visualize your future, your dream life or plan a vacation.

Exercise in nature.

Play like a kid again.

I hope this assists you in kicking your sugar cravings to the curb for good!

Love and Health,
Amanda

Meal Planning

Yesterday I had a client ask me for a meal plan and I wanted to share my response to her question with you.

I personally do not like meal plans because I feel they take your ability to tap into your intuition away from you.

I encourage you to develop your intuition and your own unique way of eating that works for you and uniquely for you.

My intention is for you to develop some rock solid holistic nutrition principals, try new foods, become more quiet and be able to begin to LISTEN to your beautiful body.

You are the expert on you. Once you learn to listen, your body will speak to you more and more and its voice will get louder and louder and then you will learn to TRUST, Honor and respect your bodies wisdom. This is not an extreme diet or extreme fast or cleanse. You are developing a new way of eating, living and relating to food.

Having said that I will now offer some meal suggestions:

Eat grains for breakfast-oatmeal or Ezekial Toast or eggs and a sprouted whole wheat tortilla.

Drink the electrolyte lemonade for a snack or eat a Lara bar, or Nectar bar, apple, or other fruit, avocados, hummus and carrots.

Lunch -Eat one large organic salad every day! Eat grains, greens, beans, nuts, seeds, avocados, fruit or green juice. If you like eat tuna fish or chicken or fish.

Dinner- Ideas-Soup, salad, fish, Whole grain pasta like quinoa pasta and marinara, sweet potatoes, experiment with the recipes. I love eating vegetable stir fry with brown rice or quinoa.

The best thing to focus on is eat less meat, milk, sugar, artificial, chemicalized junk food. Add in more whole grains like quinoa, oatmeal, millet, amaranth, and brown rice. Enjoy more organic green leafy vegetables like kale, collards, chard, spinach, and romaine lettuce. Buy organic grass fed meat and less processed, artificial meats.

What are your favorite meal plans?

What do you think about meal plans?

Have you been on a meal plan in the past and how did it suit you?

I hope after reading this you feel empowered, excited and ready to try new foods and to begin to listen to your body. The possibilities are endless!

Try this exercise get a big piece of paper and draw four columns.

Step 1) In the first column: List all the foods you are 100% positive and happy eating every day of your life. The foods that give you joy, energy and radiance.

Step 2): In the second column: List all the foods that you wouldn't ideally eat on a daily basis but you would be ok with enjoying several times a week. These foods are good but they don’t give you that alive, juiced up feeling that clears your mind and helps you feel light in your body.

Step 3): In the third column: List the foods and drinks that you wouldn't eat UNLESS you were really stuck and there was nothing else to have

Step 4): In the fourth column: List all the foods that your body tells you it never wants to eat again.

Feel clearer?

Clarity is power and this exercise will really help you to get clear on what's important to you and why. It also may get you thinking more or assist you in knowing which foods feed your soul and which foods keep you playing small and feeling stuck.

Twice a Day Visualization and Manifestation

Here is an example of a "script" I visualize, affirm and dream every day. Please use this script to craft your own.

First thing every morning and every single night of my life I go through this:

Step 1: Pick a specific date for when you will achieve, attain or realize your goal or dream.
Example: It is February 14, 2008 and I have my ideal body!

Step 2 Write down what you intend to give or do in order to attain your goal or dream.
Example:
I intend to nourish my cells, organs, tissues, bones, skin, hair, nails, teeth and body with delicious and nutritious whole real organic foods, purifying drinks and plenty of water.

I intend to slow down and eat mindfully.

I intend to release and let go of unhealthy foods and unhealthy cravings.

I intend to ski 2-3 times per week.

I intend to practice yoga 4-5 times per week.

I intend to enjoy doing sit ups and push ups four times per week.

I intend to sleep deeply and nourish my body as the temple of my soul.

Step 3: State your belief and your faith.
Example: My faith is so strong that I will attain my ideal body that I can actually see it with my own eyes. I can feel it in my bones.

Step 4: Describe what it FEELS like to attain, achieve or realize your goal or dream.
Example:
I feel amazing!
I love my body!
I am thin, strong and flexible.
I am beautiful.
My belly feels good.
My hips feel small.
My legs are strong and defined.
I feel so good.

Step 5: Visualize what your goal or dream looks like and feel what it feels like!
Example: Every single morning and every single night, close your eyes and SEE and FEEL what you described in step 4.

Step 6: Write out a clear and concise statement outlining the steps above,

Step 7: Read it aloud twice daily, memorize it and visualize it twice daily!

I would love to hear your statement or at least see it in writing. My intention is to for my Blog to be an interactive site where you feel safe and comfortable to express yourself and to receive feedback in return.

Please leave a comment here and we can all support each other in creating and realizing our dreams.

Burgers, Fries and Beer!

Why I ate a hamburger and fries and drank a beer yesterday.

First and foremost, I must confess yes, father I did it a cheeseburger, fries and drank a beer. Yes, I am a holistic health counselor and a Yoga teacher.

I woke up yesterday with glee in my heart. It was sunny and bright. I woke Johnn up and we rushed to the ski resort to enjoy a beautiful day of skiing fast and feeling filled with freedom.

Halfway through our day, we hiked and traversed for 20 minutes to the most beautiful bowl of steep, tree lined powder. We jumped in and laughed the whole way down.

Back on the lift, ready for more I thought to myself, “I really want a Burger.” Johnn absolutely loves when I talk like that and he really listens when I do because it only happens once or twice a year!

So last night at a pub we enjoyed a burger, fries and a beer.

The moral of this story is to listen to your body.

The interesting thing was that after the burger, beer and fries (and skiing all day), I felt tired. So what did I do? I picked myself up with four squares of dark chocolate and made it through the night!

The next time you get a craving for something “unhealthy” what are you going to do?

The best thing about my burger and fries dinner was that I listened to my body ate what it wanted and then let it go. Years ago I was unable to do this.

I think the most important thing to do is bounce back the next day by eating really healthy, nutritious and delicious food!

Thanks for reading!

Winter Nutrition

Winter Nutrition
By Amanda Moxley

Happy 2008! We are officially in the depths of winter and I love it! The skiing in Utah has been phenomenal!

I find it fascinating that in the darkest, coldest time of the year we westerners are running around like chickens with our heads cut off, while nature silently sleeps and surrenders. As I write, I see the snow falling outside of my window silently blanketing my beautiful maple, spruce, apricot trees and dormant garden. I am reminded of nature's stillness and try to mirror her stillness in my own life. I recommend that you too attempt to mirror the calm quiet energy of nature this January.

In March when the birds begin to chirp and the grass turns green you will emerge into the birth of spring renewed, refreshed and revitalized.

This January nourish yourself with healthy, whole foods that will keep you warm, grounded, calm and healthy.

Enjoy whole grains such as oats, quinoa, amaranth and brown rice.

Stock up on root vegetables such as beets, carrots, burdock root, parsnips, onions, garlic, leeks, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, turnips and winter squash.

Stay warm and hydrated by drinking warm water with lemon and ginger (honey is optional.) Sip on cardamom, chamomile, cinnamon, orange peel and mint teas.

Liven up your vegetables and organic grass fed meat with warming spices such as cayenne, cinnamon, coriander, cumin, fennel, anise, basil, black pepper, dill and clove.

Eat good fats to keep you warm like avocados, olive oil, coconut butter and oil, sesame oil, flax seeds, brazil nuts, almonds, cashews, macadamias, pecans, pine nuts and pistachios.

Go to bed early and sleep late!

How to Be Pulled Into Your Future with Joy and Delight!

Happy 2008 to you! This year is going to be the very best ever, I can just feel it. I am happy to be back on my Blog and intend to Blog for you at least four times a week.

I truly look forward to supporting you this entire year and beyond.

Have you written your 2008 goals and intentions yet?

I have enjoyed getting crystal clear on exactly what I want to manifest this year and it feels so good. I am super excited, so much that I awake each morning with butterflies in my belly!

This weekend I spent some really fun quality time creating my 2008 Vision Board. I have been playing with Vision Boards for several years now, and I am continuously blown away by the power of co-creating with the Universe. I highly recommend that you create your Vision Board and then sit back and watch the Universe work its magic!

Here are some tips to help you create and cement your 2008 vision.

Crafting Your Vision Board
By Amanda Moxley
How to be pulled into your future with joy and delight.

Step 1: Dream BIG and imagine your ideal life.

Step 2: Write about your BIG dream in your journal. You can categorize your ideal life into different segments such as Home Cooking and Healthy Eating, Your Ideal Body, Your Ideal Relationship, Travel and Adventures, Education and Self Improvement Classes (like my 30 Day Whole Body and Mind Cleanse and my 30 Days to Optimal Health Programs), Abundance and Finances, Giving and Sharing, Your Career and Dream Job, etc.

Step 3: Enjoy picking pictures, phrases and words out of your favorite magazines. Clip pictures that really jazz you up and get you super excited about your future.

Step 4: Get a paper board that calls to you (mine is yellow) what color is yours?

Step 5: Breathe and take your time gluing your pictures onto your board. It may take you a month don’t rush, take your time and enjoy your vision board journey!

Step 6: Here is a really cool tip, harness the power of the Universe by creating your Vision Board on the New Moon. The New Moon is a wonderful time to birth new ideas, dreams and visions. Then on the full moon take your Vision Board outside and bake it in the moonlight (feel the beautiful moon energy charging your Vision Board with love and light.)

Step 8: Hang your Vision Board where you will see it every day. Find a special wall in your bedroom, office or kitchen. Mine is on the wall next to my bed. It is the first thing I see when I wake up in the morning. My Vision Board pulls me out of bed and gets me excited about my life in a really positive way.

Step 9: Look at it daily, close your eyes and visualize your ideal life. Get into the feeling of what it would feel like if your vision was a reality now.

Step 10: Keep adding to it. If you see some pictures that really juice you up add them to your board as you move through the year.

Step 11: Take your Vision Board down when the time is right, put the date on it and store it somewhere special. Be grateful for your Vision and the amazing Universe and make a new one!

Creating your vision is a VERY powerful way to pull you forward into your future. It allows you to become crystal clear on your vision, hopes, dreams and desires for the year. If you can spot it, you got it!

I love hearing from you! Please share your experiences with creating Vision Boards with me.

Amanda
